Atlantis on Paradise Island is already a world renowned stop for sailing and boating enthusiasts around the world to come and play. The Bahamas are an ideal place for boaters of all types to enjoy due to the clear, and mostly calm waters (depending on storms, of course) that surround the islands. The Ministry of Tourism and the Atlantis Hotel Resort teamed up to bring something different to the islands for everyone to enjoy and watch.
The warm and temperate climate of Nassau Bahamas proved to be the perfect location to become the place to hold the final race in the National Championship Superboat Challenge series. The speedfest is a thrilling, high adrenaline race, involving the top and fastest speed boats of the world. The other races are held in New York, Deerfield Beach (Florida), Key West (Florida), and Miami. Participants will race against each other in top speeds recorded by use of a powerboat, and whip around in life-risking turns. These boats are capable of reaching speeds of up to 170 miles per hour, although most racers will not being going that fast.
It’s safe to say, that in order to be a captain of one of these participating speed boats, participants need to be considered a “speed freak” or an adrenaline junkie. And because the Bahamas has relatively calm waters year round, the participating speed boats have achieved some record breaking speeds.
This race covers about 120 miles around Paradise Island, giving guests clear views of the race, and the chance to get involved in the action. Guests will get to see these highly trained and very skilled drivers compete each other and against the mighty ocean. The race usually happens two times, one at 11:00 a.m. and the second one at 1:00 p.m. Fans will get plenty of times to holler out to their favorite team as they zip by in their speed boats. This exciting event and race is usually held in September and can be seen from Paradise Island. It should also be noted that this is an international race, and sponsored by Atlantis Resort, who is a great host by featuring concerts and parties during the weekend of the race.
After the race, there is a chance to get to take a ride on a speedboat adventure to some of the most exclusive islands in the world. The Exumas Powerboat Adventure allows guests of Paradise Island, and Nassau to see the Exumas for the day, which otherwise would be a rather difficult trip to do in a day. The tour will have snorkeling, open bar, breakfast and lunch, as well as a stingray, shark and iguana feeding.
