Lucayan National Park and Cave Tour Overview
Venture into an ancient, tropical world, as you explore the wonders of the spectacular, 42-acre Lucayan National Park on Grand Bahama Island. Our highly trained and informative guides will lead you through a forest which has existed since long before recorded history and then into the depths of an intricate cave to explore this fascinating locale.
Lucayan National Park was founded more than 25 years ago by the Bahamas National Trust and still provides visitors with an unforgettable encounter with the Bahamian wildlife in a place that has yet to be spoilt by human intervention. Long before being discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1492, this forest was once home to the venerable Arawak Indians, who are also referred to as the Lucayans.
Archeologists have learned much about the Lucayans through exploring the mystifying caves that mark the landscape here, where they have discovered ancient artifacts and remains of old burial rites. You too will be able to discover what lies within the bewildering depths of these caves as your guides plunge you into this amazing underground world. This endless maze of tunnels has been formed by thousands of years of acidic water slowly leaking through the island’s limestone foundation. But there is no danger of getting lost with our professional guides leading the way.
Along your journey through the Lucayan National Park, you will discover a dazzling array of tropical plants, such as mangroves, ferns and exotic flowers, including numerous different types of wild orchids. Beautiful, native birds will regale with their singing as you trek through this timeless terrain. A total of six different ecosystems can be found on Grand Bahama Island, and they are all represented in this one location. There is even the gorgeous Gold Rock Beach here where you can lay out and absorb the sun.
